A Record-Breaking Feat:
The Barrel of Dullstroom
Dullstroom holds an unusual claim to fame – a Guinness World Record for pole-sitting! In 1997, Vernon Kruger perched himself atop a 25-meter pole in a 500-liter wine barrel, enduring the elements for a staggering 67 days. This impressive feat became the longest duration pole-sitting in a barrel, etching Dullstroom’s name in the record books. The barrel remains a local landmark, a testament to Kruger’s perseverance and a quirky reminder of Dullstroom’s offbeat spirit. Remarkably, Kruger even attempted to break his own record in 2020, successfully lasting an even longer 78 days before finally coming down.
